Finalmente, los premios Oscar otorgados por la Academia de Cine y Artes de Estados Unidos se llevaron a cabo este domingo 25 de abril de 2021, teniendo como sede principal el Dolby Theatre de Los Angeles, California, así como distintas locaciones por todo el mundo. En 2021, la ceremonia se realizó casi tres meses después de lo usual, pues suele organizarse para el último fin de semana de febrero.
Una celebración más sobria, elegante y sin mucho adorno resultó esta entrega. Los números musicales se presentaron en la ceremonia previa, por lo que el programa se dedicó a la entrega de premios.
La sección In Memoriam, en la que se recuerda a los actores que fallecieron durante el año anterior -en este caso en el ciclo de 2020-, celebró las vidas de gente como Ian Holm, Christopher Plummer, Diana Rigg, Kelly Preston, Max Von Sydow, Sean Connery y Chadwick Boseman; este último cuenta con 17 premios póstumos por su papel en “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” (contando 2 a Mejor Elenco).
Chadwick no se llevó el Oscar, que fue entregado a Sir Anthony Hopkins por su actuación en “The Father”. Fue el actor y ganador del Oscar del año pasado (por Joker), Joaquin Phoenix quien anunció la segunda presea para el actor galés (la primera fue en 1992 por “The Silence of the Lambs” (El silencio de los inocentes)).
Pese a que no arrasó con los premios, “Nomadland” fue la ganadora de la noche al adjudicarse 3 de los reconocimientos más importantes: Mejor Película, Mejor Actriz (Frances McDormand) y Mejor Directora (Chloe Zhao). Es el tercer premio para McDormand, quien ya lo había recibido por “Fargo” y por “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”.
Este año las preseas estuvieron repartidas pues “Nomadland” recibió los 3 arriba mencionados, mientras que “The Father”, “Soul”, “Sound of Metal”, “Mank”, “Judas and the Black Messiah” y “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, 2 cada una.
