Otro año más y otra ceremonia de la entrega de Premios Billboard se ha llevado a cabo (poco a poco). Desde la mañana del domingo 23 de mayo se dieron a conocer la mayoría de los ganadores a través de una transmisión por Instragram a cargo de Matthew Hoffman.
El ganador de este año fue The Weeknd obtuvo 10 premios de un total de 16 nominaciones.
La noche del domingo 23 se dio a conocer al resto de los ganadores. El presentador oficial del evento fue Nick Jonas, mientras que entre los participantes con actos musicales se encuentran a P!nk, quien es receptora del Premio Ícono (de manos de Jon Bon Jovi), así como Drake, quien es reconocido como Artista de la Década. Trae Tha Truth, es el Hacedor de Cambios, por su proactividad en redes sociales.
Otros actos musicales del domingo son los de The Weeknd, BTS, Duran Duran con Graham Coxon (cantante y guitarrista de Blur), DJ Khaled, H.E.R. y Migos, Twenty One Pilots, Alicia Keys (presentada por Michelle Obama), Dora Cat con SZA y Jonas Brothers con Marshmello.
El ganador como Mejor Nuevo Artista fue Pop Smoke (además de recibir 4 premios más), quien falleció el 19 de febrero de 2020 con apenas 20 años de edad. El rapero nacido bajo el nombre de Bashar Barakah Jackson fue asesinado en su casa.
Además de The Weeknd con sus 10 premios, otros ganadores fueron Pop Smoke (con 5) y BTS (con 4). Los músicos con mayor cantidad de preseas en la historia de Billboard, son Drake (con 29) y Taylor Swift (con 25).
La ceremonia de entrega 2021 se realizó desde el Microsoft Theater en Los Angeles, California, Estados Unidos. Fue una de las primeras en contar con asistencia del público, con medidas de seguridad tales como el uso de cubrebocas y la vacunación previa al 6 de mayo de 2021.
