La edición número 29 en la historia de los MTV Movie & TV Awards se llevo a cabo este domingo 16, además del lunes 17 de mayo. El repartirlos en dos días es una nueva modalidad; el primer día se dedicó a los programas con guion (cine y tv) mientras que el segundo, a los reality shows (sin guion).
La entrega se realizó en el Hollywood Palladium de Los Angeles, California -a partir de las 8 de la noche- y fueron presentados por la comediante Leslie Jones. El DJ de la noche fue el legendario rapero Snoop Dogg (bajo su identidad de Snoop Padelic).
La mayor cantidad de nominaciones fue para el programa WandaVision de Marvel Studios y Disney+, con 5 (de los cuales obtuvo 4); esto, en la categoría de televisión. Le siguen The Boys, con 4, así como The Mandalorian, Bridgerton, Emily in Paris y RuPaul’s Drag Race, con 3 cada uno.
En cine, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm tiene 3 nominaciones, mientras que Birds of Prey, Judas and the Black Messiah y Promising Young Woman, cuentan con 2 cada una.
De los nombres que han sido ganadores en otras premiaciones, reconocemos los de Chadwick Boseman por su actuación como Levee Green en Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (y que volvió a ser ganador de la noche acumulando un total de 17 preseas, contando 2 a Mejor Elenco) y los de Anya Taylor-Joy por The Queen’s Gambit y Emma Corrin con The Crown (quienes compitieron en la misma categoría y perdieron ante Elizabeth Olsen con WandaVision).
El Premio Generación MTV fue entregado a la actriz Scarlett Johansson. Posteriormente, Sacha Baron Cohen fue recipiente del reconocimiento a Genio de la Comedia. El Premio al Mejor Momento Musical fue otorgado a Julie and the Phantoms.
El lunes, la premiación a los reality shows se llevó a cabo también a las 8 de la noche.
